Music Rant...
Usually, I welcome any disagreements to my own views, but this one I don't want any. If you have them, I know they're out there already. I don't care. If you agree, go ahead and say, but otherwise, I'll just delete the comments. Well, maybe not if it's just "I disagree!" because that would kinda amuse me.
And before the cut, it's a rant on music catagorization. If you're for it, don't click.
Recently, a lot of music catagorization has been going on. Usually, it's not that much, so I just ignore it and move on. But it's built up on me, so I'm stating my opinion on it all.
First, yeah, I know some of it because I don't know, I just do. I'm not a hypocrite for knowing it and talking about it.
Next, music in the way I see it can be broken down very, very easily. It's one of the following: Good or bad. Now, under bad falls things you don't like. Under good falls things you do. Simple enough I think.
I know this isn't good, but I've been coming to terms with country, rap, hip-hop, and even pop. It's all music, even though I might not like it, but it's all bad catagory to me.
The full catagorization, that being tacking on totally useless prefixes that aren't needed at all or nit-picking over wording on descriptors of the music, is counter productive to the enjoyment of the music itself. Sure, they are good for finding similar things that you might like, but most times, they're not right or they don't fit that well.
So, what should it be? Well, the way I see it, music is to be first enjoyed. That's the main part. If you like it, go for it and have fun.
Next, music should be just understood to an extent. Don't worry about what part it falls under. Compare whatever two bands you think sound similar, even if one is posthardcore and one is just hardcore.
Actually, I think that's even better if they're not. That way, you can introduce someone to a new band that they didn't know about. And one thing that I've come to realize is that as much good music as is out there, there should always be the desire to find more. More of the same and more new stuff.
But overall, I am going to try my hardest not to use any sort of label of catagory any more. Please help me with it by not using them in the first place or anything like that.
