Interesting -- ha, you had the same preconception as I did, a 'Big Dick Swingin' writer-type that I generally avoided. But this sounds pretty cool. Great work, Swain!

Yeah, my friends have been working on me for awhile to change my mind, just like I try to convince people from our generation that Hemingway is a great writer and not a sexist asshole.

Yeah, but I was conditioned in school to think that Hemingway simply had to be tossed from the 'canon' in order to make room for Zora Neale Hurston and others. Also, I found that those who condemned him rarely read him, and totally got him wrong.

Also, I think he's one of the best short story writers of all time.

True. I guess I've always favored the more recent white male writers to be the ones tossed away (i.e. fuck Norman Mailer). Hemingway I love. Esp. Death in the Afternoon.
