I'm just gonna run off a bunch of things.

- Planning October plans around Cubs baseball is completely and totally foreign to me. It's a good type of completely foreign, and it's not completely for sure yet, but it's a pretty good feeling overall. I was thinking about going to see Voxtrot next week, but the thing is, that would be the same night as NLDS game 2. The Cubs only make the playoffs once every five years or so, and Voxtrot comes to town at least once a year.

- The Cubs themselves, however, just got swept by the Marlins. The Marlins. Awful, awful, awful. Maybe we shouldn't make the playoffs.

- Why I'd like to be on the Chicago City Council someday.

- Speaking of city politics, I got a stack of candidate petitions on which I need to get signatures in order to get candidates on the ballot. I'm not particularly good at going out and asking strangers for their signatures in order to get candidates on a ballot, but I'm'a do it. They're gonna send out a bunch of people on Saturday, me being one of the people getting sent out. It should be fun.

- I'm still all "Obama for America" and stuff, but some days I'm all "Obama for America" more than other days. I think today I'm "Kucinich for America," but I still have the Obama button on my hat. The 48th Ward Democratic Party has also wholeheartedly endorsed Barack Obama, so I have his petitions and not the petitions of other presidential candidates.

- I'm in need of an LJ-pinion on some TV shows. First off, Chuck. I enjoyed the pilot quite a bit, and I'm definitely coming back for more next week. I'd just like to know if there's anyone else out there who saw it an enjoyed it. Second: Gossip Girl. Yeah, I watched it. Both of the first two episodes. I'm going back for more there, too. I'd also like to know if anyone saw that and also likes it, or if anyone did not see it and wants to laugh at me for watching it. Either way is fine, I don't mind. Lastly, Reaper. I only kind of watched the series premier, but I enjoyed what I saw [it was on during a Cubs game, and the repeat was during Grey's Anatomy, so that didn't work at all]. If anyone has anything to say on behalf of any of these shows, please let me know.

- I joined a Livejournal add-me community last night. I haven't posted in there yet, though.

- In my seminar on American Politics course the only real thing on which we're graded is a final 15 page paper, 20 percent of which is a presentation given to the class. Topics were handed out randomly and each topic involves comparing the positive or negative foreign policy decisions of a former president to the positive or negative foreign policy decisions of our current president. I was the lucky guy who gets "positive foreign policy decisions of George HW Bush compared to the positive foreign policy positions of George W. Bush." I don't think I'm going to have more than two sentences of material [one of which will be "mission accomplished"]. HOWEVER, for the presentation we simply have to present the most interesting thing that we learned, and not necessarily anything that's mentioned in our actual paper. So, I think, for my presentation, I'm going to put together a ten minute video using portions of the Simpsons episode wherein George HW Bush moves on to Evergreen Terrace, and the King of the Hill episode wherein Hank discovers that George W. Bush has a limp handshake. Then I'll say "Screw Flanders" out loud for the last five minutes and I'll get an A. [hat tip to Chris for suggesting I incorporate King of the Hill]

- I've been thinking about starting a blog [Brandon's brain: "oh boy, here we go again"]. It would involve analyzing contemporary popular [or less than popular] music from a progressive political standpoint. I dunno, it's just something about which I've been thinking, especially with Bruce Springsteen releasing a new album next Tuesday [although, in full disclosure, the only Bruce album I've heard straight through is Nebraska (which is a fucking masterpiece), but otherwise I've only really done his greatest hits, which means I'm not too familiar with his complete body of work].

- I had a fantastic weekend last weekend. I mean, with the exception of Bears football, it was just jam packed with cool people, and cool things. Also I'm pretty smitten over someone. Just sayin'.

- Is there anything on the horizon? Oh, maybe. I dunno. Lots of things are coming up but I really need to take care of actual school work first. At least this year I was able to keep the overload away until the fifth week. Usually the overload sets in sometime during the second week. This is an improvement.

- I've been trying to learn my Japanese. I'm really bad at writing Hiragana right now, but I think I'm speaking it alright. I believe the title of this entry translates to "it's not a clock."
