Well, I don't think ten days of holidays ever went more quickly than ours recently did. I can't believe I have already been back at work for two days -- it feels like I didn't have a minute off. This fact makes me a tad grumbly, as I would really like to walk back in the door all happy and cheerful and refreshed. Seems to set off something of a vicious cycle...lol.
Anyway we did do quite a lot this holiday season. Lots of baking and eating and enjoying of family. We had Christmas at our place, which was lovely and very important to the man of the house as it was our first married Christmas. We did the traditional aussie barbeque for Christmas lunch, well traditional except that it was bucketing down rain and only 14C!!! I loved every minute of the cold weather, and thanked the rain gods for every drop of moisture.
Boxing Day we flew up to Sydney, as Miss Claire was heading to China with her dad and step mom (to go see her grandparents). Fortunately we had Boxing Day with Miss Claire to explore Sydney, as amazingly she had never been there. We stayed right in the city, and got checked in to the hotel and then went to Circular Quay where we hopped aboard our five star "Top Deck" lunch cruise. We had a lovely three course lunch, and to our great surprise discovered that the Sydney to Hobart yacht race was marshalling in the Harbour and took off during the course of our cruise! We had some great views of the yachts, and it added an additional bit of specialness to what was an already lovely afternoon. We said goodbye to Claire after that, and then spent the next three days in Sydney chilling out. We went to the movies, to art galleries, around the city, on the monorail and to a day spa. We got home and were exhausted!
We opted for a quiet new year's eve...which involved watching dvds and then the fireworks at midnight. New Year's day saw us at the customary Cafe 401 brunch...which was as always populated with the beautiful and witty and at least one fine chef.
Our household is missing its short person. Miss Claire doesn't return from her overseas adventures until January 21st. While she's gone, we will work longer hours and see more grown up movies and have more...grown up time...in the living room. We'll be glad to have her home.
I'd best get back to some work now -- happy 2007 all! :)
