Got Men?

Apr 12, 2004 22:37

Wells Doesn't...for now (biologically). Come May, this could all change, however.

Seriously, the faculty has voted (not single-mindedly, but a majority vote) that they would support a move to go coed. The trustees are seriously discussing it. The goal is to admit biomen as early as 2007.

Are you a student who wants to help protest this move toward coeducation? Then participate in the silent protest tomorrow (Tuesday)--do not speak in your academic buildings/classes. Are you a TA? Nope...you've been silenced. Do you normally lead class discussions because few others talk? nope...you've lost your voice. Pop by the dining hall and pick up a sticker or two (from 7:30-after lunch) that say "coeducation silences women", "coeducation silences me", "coeducation silences Wells", "this is a woman's voice after coeducation", etc. Make a t-shirt with markers. Something to alert people that you are silenced! Can't be silent (ie: have to give a presentation)? Pick up an ally sticker and arm band.

Join us at the faculty meeting as well! We will be standing, silently, with signs/banners/something around the AER (find us on the bench across from the AER) and down the stairs (goal is 200 people!!!!!!) so that faculty can't miss us. Since we can't go in, our student representatives are bringing a statement to the meeting and will make sure WE get on the agenda (as in, our issues with coeducation).

So, you say you're an alum? A parent of a Wells student? Write a letter, write an email, call! email the president, the trustees, the alumni/development offices, other alums! let them know that this isn't OK and that they could lose the support of their alums!

*sorry for the X-post!*
