So there's this guy BeerMan.
He makes home brew and brought several bottles to CGs party.
As he was passing out cups of his coffee stout, someone asked him about ingredients and I second that. Not because of worrying about taboo items but because I was curious about the beer making process.
He listed the usual suspects and went on to pontificate about cooking and fermenting processes.
All was good and eventually the bottle of Irish Stout was opened.
It was during this pouring that he dropped a bombshell.
Apparently he hadn't listed ALL the ingredients (or at least hadn't called them by their proper name) earlier. The sugar in the coffee stout was lactose.
Aside from the fact that this is an animal derived product is the fact that I'm lactose intolerant. Consuming it makes me sick.
When I mentioned to him that he really needed to more clear in the future about ingredients, he shrugged his shoulders and said he didn't have time to humor hypochondriacs.
He backed down and insincerely recanted when I and a couple of other people took exception to this.
I find attitudes like this extremely dangerous. What if I was allergic to it? Or if my immune system was severely depressed? Never mind my personal beliefs (like forgetting to mention there was ground pork in a dish you were serving to a kosher Jew).
Fortunately I hadn't drunk much and the fact that I've been strict veg for over a year now helped my body cope and I only had a mild reaction which I managed to mostly counteract with several bottles of water.
Honest mistakes I'm cool with - but a blatant disregard is not acceptable or forgivable.
what the fuck,

anger hurts
