What to Do?

I had my academic counseling meeting this morning. I'm much farther along - but not as far as I had hoped.

To graduate/transfer/get an AA I still need to take 12 more classes.

If I don't get a job - I can knock off 6 of the 12 during summer semester (3 first session, 3 second session) the downside to that is that I'll then only have a little under a month to find a job before the money runs out. The upside is that I'll be ready to graduate from GCC by summer of '08 and can transfer to Northridge starting Fall Semester of '08(I don't know how long I'll need to be at Northridge once I transfer).

When I was originally toying with the idea of taking summer semester, it was with the thought that I was close enough to my AA to graduate and that having an AA on my resume would give job hunting a boost. If I get a job, I can still maybe take 2 classes - but that pushes my transfer out to '09.

My quandary is this: if I don't start looking for a job until September, will the fact that I was out of work all summer and no degree hurt my prospects? Should I be looking now while I'm (relatively) fresh off the horse?

I do want to finish school as quickly as possible - I'm almost 40 and would like to be done with it already. But dealing with a new job will probably slow me down academically and where I might have taken two classes before - I might only feel I have the time/energy for one.

And I need to make this decision in the next 7 days as registration for summer starts next week. My counselor says that summer classes fill up fast.
