WEEK 7
Day 40 (Feb 14; half way point)
Today was just so easy. Final day for Parents Magazine shoot and pretty much it was a light and quick shoot at the local park. This morning I finally finished my paper. Well writing it at least… still need to edit and add images and fix work cited. We finished at 1pm. I got to play with Edie (cutest/chill baby) who is 5 months old with lovely baby blue eyes… Little Flower Candy Company is the local bakery that Christa always orders from and man oh man they have the best food! Today they brought in these brownie cupcakes with butter cream icing and soba buckwheat noodle salad. I ended up getting back home around 2pm and it was such a nice day that I actually jumped into the pool.

Happy Valentine’s Day and Chinese New Year and Happy Birthday Stine!

Day 41
Apparently it is presidents day today and back home its family day. I still went to work. I got things done; I edited my paper. It turns out that double spaced size 12 font my paper is 49 pages. Shit. Hah.

So since its been a hectic past couple weeks christa is totally wrecked… she needs rest and family time so she is giving wendy and me off for the week! If only I knew sooner… I could of planned things out to do and possibly of had a visitor come up. Anyways, that’s pretty much it…

Day 42
Today is the first weekday I have had off… i… don’t know what to do with myself… I am sitting here looking for things to do. At least today I got to take product shots for Wendy. I love her home! Its so cute and 1950s. It is a little awkward being in the guesthouse during the day because it becomes the kitchen/washroom and im just sitting in here…BUT because I am usually never home online during the day, I don’t get to chat with some people and it was good to catch up and talk to them yay!

anyways… I biked over to christas to meet wendy just in case she wanted to shoot some shots in her house and to grab her camera but for some reason I decided to grab mine and good thing because christa did leave the mark ii eos 5d behind but she didn’t leave a lense…

Got to wendys place and shot in her kitchen and living room. I will be coming back sometime in the next few weeks when the house is finished being painted to shoot interiors. Can’t wait. You have no idea how happy I felt to be shooting again… its been awhile since ive shot with my d200 (also known as levi… she named it back in 2nd year) this camera has been neglected since ive been here. But its ok… im learning a lot and im starting to get the opportunity to take it out.

Also, I am going to the beach tomorrow with wendy and logan! Yay! Going to the beach and just chilling… no work. Just relaxing…

Day 43
I am starting to help out Deb in the office… apparently I am really organized so that is what I will be doing for her while she is gone to san fran. I then hopped on my bike and rode to wendy’s place and then her friend ginger and her daughter alice picked us up and we headed to Malibu and went to el matador beach. A litte rocky but otherwise it was nice… I thought Logan was a quiet girl but man oh man… she got comfortable with me… I remember being as hyper as her when I was younger…

Anyways, worked on my tan and had a good day. Tomorrow I think I will just stay in and get working on that organization for deb and then possibly fri I might get to go dim sum and Huntington park. As for exploring… I will go out but I think I will do that Friday and the weekend.

Day 44
So I decided to stay in and work in Deb’s office.. the task I am doing is trying to convert all the images she has for each photographer and making them some sort of uniform size so she can use them to build quick promo pdfs for them for jobs. I got through 3 photographers… it is hard to do when you don’t exactly have guidelines and deb isn’t here either… I think I did an ok job with it so far.

I should of went out today… a little chilly but apparently tomorrow and the weekend they are expecting rain =(. Wendy brought up dim sum and Huntington flower garden for tomorrow but last minute changes she couldn’t go and also its cutting it close because she is going up north for her sister’s wedding. So my plans are to go out to Hollywood area on Saturday… thinking about going to getty center but not sure… bus-ing would be about 2 hours to get to getty; 2 hours to get to Hollywood and 2 hours to get home… maybe I will go moca instead?? Not sure.. BAHH. I just really want to go somewhere cool and also get my butt to kidrobot and munky king for toys haha.

I also want to hit up Chinatown and little Tokyo too.. moca if I can

Day 45 (feb 19)
I was suppose to have the day off but christa emailed us because she needed up to work. I ended up watching her kid while she went for her pregnancy screening. Her dad painted the table in the office so it was a mess in there… I ended up finishing one album for that celebrity…. I kindof messed up the first one but meh…

This week, I have had the chance to get to know the kids of christa and wendy and well… they seem to like me a lot… both are slightly crazy but hey.. I was crazy too.

Planning my weekend is fun. I haven’t had the chance to bus/sub/metro rail anywhere just yet so this should be fun.

Day 46 (feb 20)
It was a good day to end off week 7. It turned out to be a beautiful day! I shouldn’t have packed my d200 but I guess it gave me a workout haha. I last minute cut out the le brea tarpits yesterday night because I thought it would rain. So I woke up early enough to shower and talk with the parents via skype before heading out around 9am. The metro rail to me is very similar to the scarborough town rt except much nicer and no sqeeking. The subways are large too.. their union station is very big and connecting to everything like Amtrak; just like toronto’s union station. I didn’t find it difficult at all to take the bus/sub/rail. I bused to The Grove (3rd and Fairfax) which is an outdoor mall type plaza. For some reason I still have the problems that I have had in the past with things not fitting me properly… I ended up only buying something from Victoria secret there… then I headed out to Melrose Ave and walked to Adidas where I was tempted to buy a pair of shoes… I wanted these basic white shoes... it was only 40 bucks! But I tried them on and they just didn’t fit nicely =/ my shells are going through a lot over here heh. I do have a pair of onitzuka’s in my closet at home that I got 2 years ago in NYC but I think I might purchase another pair of shoes out here… I have my shells and my flats and slippers for indoor.

Anyways, I ended up finding the BCBG Melrose outlet… they had some nice stuff for cheap! There were jeans for 9 bucks but they were super wide leg =/ I did end up buying a pair of black jeans but need to get them hemmed… I swear the size that I think I am is not the right size when I goto look in the stores… I swear I haven’t grown… the thigh and butt area just don’t seem to be in my favour here… and apparently calves… damn skinny jeans.

From there, I just kept walking and it brought back memories because I was here with Qian and Cindy in September and I wish I had someone here with me. As I was walking and heading towards Kidrobot, across the street there is a tokidoki store. Of course I bought stuff from Kidrobot. I think my spending habits are pretty good… Ive been here for 46 days and in reality this is the first time I am actually shopping, the only other money I spent is on groceries. Luckily I did some big spending at Kidrobot to use up some 100 dollar bills haha. Ray… your purchase made my heart stop when the cashier told me the total. My plan was to bus to Munky King because last time I was here it seemed really far especially with the humidity but instead I walked. Didn’t take me that long actually… I made one more purchase before getting to Munky King and I think it will come in handy when I get back… lets hope I don’t grow… I think it was cute. Anyways, Munky King has changed slightly since I was there in September, since the celebration of Chinese new years, artists had done some awesome tiger paintings. I ended up purchasing a few things there but didn’t pick up one item I was eyeing. All together though, from my purchases at kidrobot and munky king; I did not spend more than Ray did… and really… it seems to be less than usual… I usually spend more I think when it comes to toy purchases (it also helped sortof that they didn’t have some toys in stock…)

After that, I had 4 bags to carry plus my purse/tote with my d200 in it… my shoulders were getting tired… I waited for the bus but got impatient and I didn’t think the restaurant I wanted to visit was too far so I walked. I ended up at Highland and Melrose at Susan Feniger’s Street restaurant. I found this place on NotCot last summer and have been dying to go there ever since but last time I was here we skipped it. It was good that I went although it kindof sucked to ask for a table for 1… but they gave me a corner booth so I could put my stuff down too haha. The atmosphere was lovely in there and there is a little outdoor patio-ish type but I was boiling from walking so I stayed indoors. I have prepared for my visit here for awhile as to what I would order… there were soo many tempting options but I settled for Tatsutage Fried Chicken, Cantaloupe Agua Fresca, and finished off with a Vietnamese Panna Cotta (This is the only thing I would of changed… damn I should of went for the semolina cake). And that pretty much ended my trip to Hollywood. I hopped on the bus and headed home. Got home and got to skype my mom’s side of the family who are at my house celebrating Chinese new years. I think this is the first time I have ever missed a Chinese new years dinner… it feels weird. My favourite treat from it is my aunt’s leen go. I guess this year as in tomorrow I will have to celebrate it alone in a sense but really with many people in Chinatown!
