With the economy finally catching up with Bush and his dumbass policies. People are starting to cut back on luxury items. And art is exactly that, a luxury item. The sales from shows this year and last are way down. Combine that with a slue of requests for commercial work from designers and agencies. Last week I took the dive and purchased my first digital SLR.
Being a Nikon kind of guy I of course stayed with the team and purchased a Nikon D80 with 18-55mm and 70-300mm AF lens. I had shunned all electronics in my gear using only my bomb proof FM-2 and F my entire professional career. My theory being that if my battery died the only thing I lose is my metering. And I can always work around that.
So being new to all these buttons, not to mention auto-focus I took some time today to test not only the optics but the auto-focus of the camera and lens. I have to say I am very impressed. I tried auto-focus when it was first released in the eighties and it was total crap. Can't really say that at all now.
Here are few of the first images taken today.
I chose subjects that were not stable due to the wind. And was very impressed with how the camera was able track the focus.
