Something Special

I have have always been proud of my ability to keep what little ego I have in check. I have always been humble and thankful to those who have complimented and/or purchased my artwork.

Tonight was a big opening at a local high-end gallery. The place was packed with the most diverse crowd. All the young hipsters to the rich and elite of the community were in attendance. What was so amazing for me and so hard not let go to my head was all the introductions. Every big name artist in the local art scene was there. And everyone of them introduced me to their biggest patrons and sponsors.

But the great thing about it was how they did the introductions. All of them would not only describe my work in most glowing terms, but they would name someone that had it hanging in their home or business that the patron or sponsor would know.

I was a little taken aback by this. I guess I never really stopped to think about how much work I had throughout this community.

I gave out so many business cards that I ran out. After the show the it was decided by all involved to move the party to the local burrito joint where the pats on the back and hugs continued. I felt like a rock star.

I must say it was a pretty damn great evening. What made it so special was that the artists that I respect in the community not only know my work. But know it by title. That to me is one of the greatest compliments I could get. So forgive me if for tonight at least, I have a little ego and think of myself as something special.
