2008 Fic Roundup (lavvyan did it, so I had to too)

16 Fics, ~144,800 words

Favorite - Animus, Animalia, Familae I really got all my kinks out at once. I had a ridiculous amount of whumping, a lot of team bonding, his dark materials, and a real close examination of the McKay/Sheppard relationship, even if the story could technically be considered gen.

Best - Mona Lisa Box I like the quality of writing and thought that I stumbled into with this. John as a robot is not that much different from John as a person and the comedic factors combine beautifully with the fatalistic philosophy of TSCC. Plus, you've got to love the ending.

Most Fun - A Little Bit Like Goldilocks, A Lot Like That Woody Allen Movie Rodney is just really fun to write over-the-top. He's not a normal person and the way he manages to blow any situation wide open is a ton of fun. And I loved the idea of John and Sam together. They have a very sweet relationship in canon and I really wish we'd seen more of it.

Sexiest - A Little Bit Like Goldilocks, A Lot Like That Woody Allen Movie It's the only one with explicit sex, even though it's mostly bad sex. What does this say about me?

With the Single Sexiest Moment - Identity Crisis John in a leather corset and tights, kicking ass.

"Holy crap, that's wrong, even for you" - Persephone Ascending I don't know what I was thinking. I'd like to stand up for the interpretation of John here, but my thought process on this one in general was very muddled. There wasn't a lot of point and people seemed to react badly to my sloppy plotting and lack of direction.

Shifted My Own Perceptions of the Characters - Dave's Story Before Outcast in general, I thought of John as an only child from a military family, or at least a middle class one. Finding out his background and trying to create a believable backstory for what happened between him and his brother really changed how I looked at him. After Dave got his say, I liked John a lot less.

Hardest to Create - Twilight of the Fifth Sun: Lantern Well, it went from one story to two stories to one again in about nine months. Like giving birth to siamese twins.

Biggest Disappointment - Here Be Monsters I just didn't come out quite how I wanted. I went into the challenge thinking that for "away" I wanted to do something about the wraith and humans having to live in Wraith society. I also wanted to do something like Pirates of the Carribean. It was supposed to be epic, and it just fell flat.

Biggest Surprise - Twilight of the Fifth Sun: Lifeboat I was intending this to be a cute little snippet trying out John and Rodney as kids, instead I spawned a massive WIP that is still lingering (updates soon, I promise)

Most Unitentionally Telling - Darling Boy Shows what lengths I'll go to in order to knock John up.
