CWS Calendar - Day 4

Aug 04, 2012 23:57

Task: Write a short text in which a person experiences one of the emotions from August 3rd. Do not say which emotion it is. Instead, make the situation clear and show the emotion, e.g. by describing the person's reactions, body language etc.

Erin looked at me blankly, her fork pausing on the way to her mouth. Something in her eyes bothered me more than the decision she had just imparted on me. It was as if she thought me an idiot for not understanding, but that she wasn't going to waste time explaining it to me.

"You don't get it, do you?"

My body stiffened at her remark.

She shook her head and put her fork down.

I stabbed at the lasagna in front of me and watched it cool down further with each thrust.

"This is not how it works."

Her nostrils flared. I could see that she was steeling herself for a fight.

I dropped my knife onto the table and grabbed for my napkin. Trying to buy time, I scrubbed it over my lips before crushing it into a soggy little ball.

"Aren't you going to say something?"

I looked at her from narrowed eyes. My jaw clenched at the sight of her; sitting here at our regular spot in a discrete corner of my favourite Italian restaurant. I had done so much for her, had literally given up my life for her; and here she was, cheerfully discarding everything we had for a game of chance. I gritted my teeth.

There were a lot of things I wanted to tell her, but I knew it would do no good. She had made her decision. Nothing I said would make a difference now.

So, instead, I slammed my hands onto the table and exploded out of my chair.

"I need to go to the bathroom", I gritted out.

Then, I barged out of the room, feeling the gazes of the other diners following me on the way out.

This worked surprisingly well, once I sat down to write. :-)
