I'm so upset with the town in which I live. My daughter has been out of school for two weeks, why? Her school closed down, they didn't have enough people paying tuition to make payroll and so they closed. The teacher thought that once the school closed that the rabbis would tell the other girls schools to take in our girls. We are going on three weeks and no one has been told to take our girls in and so no one is taking our girls in.
I contacted three schools one of which I needed to leave a message for an administrator that was not in his office at 945am...humm so where was he during work hours?
The second school stated they knew it was a problem and were not taking anyone yet, because the school might reopen (yeah right how long does my kid have to be out of school for it to count as closed or a crisis?) but they took my name and phone number and said they would call me if things changed.
The third school I called I really didn't even want to send my kid to but I'm kind of desperate. What did the thrid school say? The stated they needed to wait for the Rabbis to tell the schools that they needed to start taking the girls and they would not be taking any girls until they were told to...but they were willing to enroll her for the following year! The following year? What grade pretell you I be enrolling her in for the following year if she doesn't go to school for the next four months? Please tell me that?
So with a heavy heart I called Shalom Torah Academy a Co-ed day school. Of course they said send her in she can start today! But what happens to my Bais Yaakov girl when she goes to a day school? What can I expect for her, as we wanted to be a more religious orthodox family than to send our kids to co-ed schools. Alas we are according to some in town, not good enough for our children to go to "their" schools as our husbands have not learned in town, or the mother's wear their clothes too tight, too short! What happened to our kids getting the kind of Jewish eduacation in the proper environment because they are jewish...no such luck the town doesn't care and I ask you then why should I care? Why should I want to be like them and be this religious if this is the kind of people I would be grouped with? I'm sad that these are my options...ON the upside...I really liked Shalom, they had great programs and their cirriculum was well advanced of that of the Bais Yaakov schools in Lakewood.
The Helig Lakewood is not so Helig after all...because Holy people don't leave kids on the streets and Holy people make sure the children have where to be before their education begins to sufer. I hate this town, I hate people like this...they say they want people to become religious but when they do...they don't want them to be part of their community or be friends with their children or go to their schools!
