I don't have ADD...

My brain just works faster than yours.

Have I told you about the litter of puppies my mom's dog had?  They've been trying to get Kali pregnant for a couple years now, and the issue isn't DJ because his stud services have been used multiple times with no issues.  So, she finally gets preggo (she's about 4-5 years old) and has a little of 9 puppies!  One of them didn't survive the birth, so 8 healthy puppies!  Pure lab.  Golden mom, Chocolate dad and they produced 3 black, 3 golden, 1 WHITE and 1 Whiskey colored.

They were born July 2.  Not long after they got mobile, (around 3-4 weeks) one of the puppies appeared to get injured.  Little golden female.  She fell partially out of the kennel and stopped walking, wagging her tail, etc.  I took her into my vet and had her looked over.  My mom named her Grace.  Based on the circumstances, my vet said it was probably trauma to the spine, but since it happened Grace was again wagging her tail and had feeling in her hind legs, even though she wouldn't put weight on them.  So she was given a steriod to help heal faster with the hope that she'd get better.  Vet said x-ray or scans wouldn't really show much in such a young puppy because she wasn't fully formed anyhow.

We did daily leg exercises and gave Grace her meds, but she got worse and ended up dying.  Well, around the same time Grace got really bad and died, another puppy stopped walking and had issues with her hind end.  So this time all 7 puppies went to my mom's vet.  They did x-ray and scan of Grace after she died to see if it would help determine what was wrong with the other puppy.  Ends up, it wasn't an injury that caused Grace to stop walking, she had an infection that attacked the bones and joints.  It just happened to occur at the same time as the accident, so it was assumed it was trauma.

With this new info, mom's vet was able to give the newly sick puppy (named GG for Good Girl) a different set of meds. The other 6 puppies were fine.  First week GG didn't seem to get any better physically, but her fever did break and she was eating better.  Second week, vet changed up a couple meds and GG was allowed to start walking around in a very limited manor.  GG also began doing physical therapy in the water so that there was less pain and pressure on her legs.

Now we're in week three of meds and GG is up and running around, all kinds of happy and mostly healthy.  She's still finishing up a few meds but the real issue now is the loss of muscle in her hind end.  Her legs are terribly weak and she's rather small compared to her siblings.  But things are looking GOOD for GG!!!  Due to all her medical issues so far, my parents won't be selling GG like they did the rest of the puppies, and they don't want another dog right now, so they offered GG to us.

I told them we'd be thrilled to have her, but GG will have to stay at my mom's until she gets stronger, because my other baby, Doja, doesn't realize how big she is and would probably hurt GG just by trying to play with her. :-)

Speaking of Doja, I am soooo very proud of my baby!  Tyke went to the neighbors house (about 2 acres away) to play.  Khrissy went outside and called for the dogs and Gunner came running within a call or two.  But Khrissy called for a good 10 minutes and Doja would not come.  Which is odd, since even when Gunner runs off, Doja stays home.  Ends up that Doja was with Tyke at the neighbors house and wouldn't leave his side.  Good dog!

I can't have puppy stories without pics, so here you go:

This is GG last weekend.  She's taking a drink next to Grey Kitty. Keep in mind that Grey Kitty is not a large cat by any means and GG is 2 months old in this pic.  You can see how weak her entire hind end is, poor baby.

And here is GG playing with her sister Mia (my sister's dog, from the same litter).  You can see how GG is smaller and her hind legs have nowhere near the definition that Mia's do.

And just for good measure, here's my Gunner trying on his new hoodie (he gets chilly at night). He'll be 3 in March. Lab/beagle mix

And Doja cuddled up with my hubby.  She just hit 8 months on Friday and thinks (as most larger breeds do) that she's a lap dog.  Bull Mastif/Shepherd mix.

Sooner or later I'll do a book update and toss in some status info on me and my human family. :-)
