School fiasco

Well, it's done and over with. After fighting with the bus garage manager, Principal of the school and superintendant of the school board, I gave up. The closest stop is 6/10 of a mile down a super busy and very dangerous road. Not going to happen, sorry.

So, my mom is a complete basket case over this. She's going through a particularly hard time with "empty nest" syndrome seeing as my brother left for school a couple weeks ago (my mother has had kids since she was 17). Her only "saving grace" was having my kids there every single day....now she doesn't have that either. Today is their last day of day care. My mom's a mess, which is making my daughter an even bigger mess. Devin is a very sensitive empath, and just being in the house with my mom makes her break down crying because "nana's so sad". My mom's suggestion is to have the kids walk through the neighbor's orchard. Doesn't cut much off distance but keeps them off the road. Sure, until harvest when they are dodging tractors and ladders, or winter when they are marching through 3 feet of snow. Nope.

Anyway, got them successfully transferred to the school right behind our house. Literally 4 city blocks away. The girls were able to meet their teachers and all three familarized themselves with the school and how to find thier classroom. Note to parents everywhere: DO NOT wait until the day before school to register your kids! OMG what a nightmare. I would have done it sooner, had I known...*glare*.

Tonight, we are going to walk to school with them to "time" how long it takes so we know what time they need to leave in the morning. And we are assinging a designated meet-up place for them to gather after school to walk home together. We already laid down the before and after-school rules. We still need to get house keys made up for them and decide if they will hang on the backpacks or around their necks.

I'm not happy about this...not one little bit. But at least my kids have somewhere to go to school at. I hope they adjust well; especially Devin, as it took her 4 years to make A friend. *sigh*

rant, school
