I'm wondering if that's what they mean by "tipping" the ear... When you get ferals spayed at the kitty planned parenthood they do this so other people don't bother trying to trap/spay/release them.
However, I didn't realize they clipped quite so much off, so I'm hoping that's something else.
huh. I've got two "ferals" I'm feeding on the porch that need to go for TNR in a couple weeks when I have funds again. The price difference is staggering, but I'm kinda thrown off by that ear...
From what I've heard, it's akin to getting the top of your ear peirced -- not many nerves, so not much pain. It doesn't affect their hearing, either. Seems like a worthwhile trade-off compared to cats having to go through the whole capture process again.
She's a capture cat. The vet/shelter clipped the top of her ear when they spayed her so they'd know not to try it again should she wind up a stray again.
