(x-posted from my Facebook. Yes, I actually posted on Facebook.)
*cackles madly* I startled SO many people tonight. Sat unmoving on my porch in my costume with a big bowl of candy. When kids (over a certain age, anyway) came up to grab a handful, instead of one piece like the sign said, I jumped and "Boo"ed at them. Priceless! Too bad some of 'em saw me breathing first.
Now for the "screw the character limit" LiveJournal part.
I'm debating going to a costume contest tonight, with a $1000 prize for best costume. A couple of things are making me rethink this.
- I'm a bit tired from a super-busy weekend. (Though I work later tomorrow)
- I've never actually been to this place before. (But I usually haven't for contests, so that's not so big)
- No one to go with me. (This *is* more of a big deal. I *reeeeeallly* prefer having someone with me while I'm out in 'suit)
- The judging for "best costume" (The only category I could go for) is going to be based on popular vote, i.e. applause meter.
That last reason is the main reason I'm thinking of skipping. I've been to several contests in the past that did "judging" like this, and I *never* win. People will clap and scream for their buddies, or a funny/clever costume, or for a pop culture costume (like The Mad Hatter from Tim Burton's version of Alice in Wonderland), especially if they're drunk. No one is going to recognize my costume (despite it being on the city shield), and no one knows me. Most people aren't going to care that my 'suit is hand-designed and -built.
I dunno. I have just under two hours to make a final decision. Should I go? $1000 is a lot of money.
EDIT: Yeah, the lack of a handler is a BIG deal, so I think I'll stay home this year. Thanks!
