New season of Avatar tonight! I'm not terribly fanboyish about much these days, but Avatar is one of the few things that produces that effect in me. Really, the best western animation currently on air.
-Aang with hair? I squeed. No really, it was almost fangirlish. I am both proud and ashamed. As good or maybe better than Zuko with Earth Kingdom hair. I honestly hope Aang keeps it. It works for him and style change in animation is a good thing, as long as it happens for a reason.
-The ZukoxAzula!cest shippers must have loved this episode. The scene in Azula's bedroom? The thing fanfiction writers DREAM of.
-MaixZuko kiss... WHAAAAA? Okee, didn't see that coming at ALL. Not sure exactly how I feel about it. It has potential, but I must admit, I'm more fond of the ZukoxKitara pairing.
-Ozai's face! And he's a Bishi too! Go figure!
-No finding out what happened to Iroh. Kinda sad. =|
-The interaction between Kitara and her father seemed a bit rushed. Useful to the story and a logical occurance, it just seemed to be more subplot than plot, because they didn't spend much time on it. Thankfully this was about my only dissatisfied moment.
-More hints at Roku being partially responsible for everything going on... But no further explanation of why he disappeared.
-Random Yue moment! Nice to see she's still around in a semi-active role, but she didn't really have a lot of reason to show up when she did. Especcially as Sokka wasn't around. =P
-Return of the Zuko topknot: BOO.
-Major improvement in the design of the Zuko topknot, to signify the maturing he's done: YAY.
-Burning of the glider was beautifully done, in my opinion. I couldn't help but the of the "When I was I child, I spoke as a child, acted as a child, believed as a child. But when I became a man, I put away childish things." quote. It was a nice touch to show how Aang's not as carefree as he once was. Still playful, but he's growing up. He's more responsible, more scarred, and just a bit wiser. Kudos to character growth!
-Avatar in Doraemon-Style chibi? Pure. Win.
-Zuko can Lavabend now? I wonder how truely canon we can take this short as... Zuko Lavabending is as big as Kitara's Icebending, Toph's Metalbending, and Azula's Lightningbending. And the Misty Swamp Plantbending, I guess. But besides that, Zuko sitting on a little stone dino? More pure win.
Overall, I was delighted with the return of Avatar. Last real good show Nick has. The series is as good as it ever was, retaining it's classic style that doesn't target demographics, but appeals to everyone who enjoys a good story.
