Oh the Livejournal, how I have ignored you for the past week or so.
But for good reason - I've been out, visiting family. Wherein not only did my grandparent's house burn down (well, it is still standing, but damage is estimated at 350K), but I saw a man die, most likely.
I'll talk about any of that in another post, possibly. But, in the mean time, I /did do fun things as well/. It was not all badness. For example, I went to the Museum of Natural History..
Tomanowos! Or the Willamette Meteorite. You are allowed and encouraged to touch this chunk of spacemetal, but I discourage licking.
All the odd bendy furrows were there because rainwater mixed with parts of the meteor to create acids, which in turn ate interesting patterns in the surface. The bottom is very plain, because it was safely buried in the ground.
Probably more Yehat than Pkunk, but then again, look at the one in the background! In person, the pterodactyls were really big, in any case. I wouldn't honk my horn at them, unlike I often do at crows.
Apatosaurus excelsus, which easily took up the whole length of the room with only a little bit to spare on either side. The tail is utterly ludicrous.
Yep, it's Eichstätt's Archaeopteryx. Look up "Archaeopteryx" in Wikipedia, a picture of this is the first thing you see. Look at the gorgeous feathers!
Is it a JACKAL?
Obviously, these two blackbacks are plotting something. Possibly against the birds in the distance. But they deserve it, thinking they can just fly! They don't own the air, so they should stop acting like they do! Hmf!
Incredibly detailed Chinese wedding carriage. Well, not so much a carriage, it's one of those things where four people carry you by foot and.. and it doesn't matter, look at the larger version and count how many figures and dragons and whatnot you see. c_c
Four armed Ganesha in bronze! I have no idea what he is holding, and did not have time to read the inscription, as things were wrapping up.
Hell, why not make it SIX armed while we're at it. Throw in some snakes, maybe an.. an.. aardvark, sure, why not!
Poor ungulate, got his horns twisted so hard by a classmate they stuck that way! Actually, they're huge and impressive, and I doubt anyone is going to bully him now!
