Philadelphia Trip!

Jun 29, 2010 15:59

At the Franklin Fountain, an old fashioned ice cream shop (down to the dress and hair of the servers), taliabear , mmsword  and I started the day with ice cream sundaes.  I got "The Lightning Rod"..

It was described as follows:

A dark chocolate brownie surmounted by COFFEE ice cream bathed in a DOUBLE-SHOT of ESPRESSO and
peppered with chocolate covered espresso beans, sweet coconut flakes and finished with a pretzel rod.
Will surely ELECTRIFY even the most enervated.

I am proud to report: it works!

I believe Cassie got the MT. VESUVIUS ( Picture!) and Zander got a Teaberry Gum cone, which was delicious.  :9  We all got their home made root beer as well, and my.. we've been spoiled now.

------------

We eventually managed to work our way to the Philadelphia Zoo, where we got to watch animals suffer under 95F+ weather!  Well, the otters had fun, and we were envious.  But even the reptiles decided it'd be a good time to just pile in place and rest..

.....

The /most/ interesting event there, though, was easily this Lynx's reaction to Chris..

It would not stop staring at him. Wherever he went, it turned and followed, unblinking, tail quivering with energy, as if a challenge were being made. Not that the glass would have permitted a challenge. Chris was wearing a very very bright orange-red shirt with a Phoenix on it, though, and I wonder if the Lynx was either vexed by the birdy, or annoyed that even more heat on this burning day were about to be brought to bear upon it!

......

We then spent a bit of time hanging around the Reading Terminal Market, which reminded us very much of a flat version of Pike Place Market here in Seattle.  But, you know, with more cheese-steaks and less fish.  :9

....

A quick trip across the Delaware River brought us to visit ceruleanst , and from there, to round out the day, more icecream at The Pop Shop!

This was their new Candy Store Sundae, which included M&Ms, Butterfingers, Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, Whoppers, and Snickers Bars. Oh god, I have committed so many food-crimes this vacation....

.. surprisingly, less at Anthrocon, though. Much more dancing to be done there. But that's for next post!
