[The sound of steady gunfire putting an end to crazed laughter]

Tch.

Guess those bastards thought it'd be fun to follow me all the way here. Or did they take a ride in that dryer of yours, Susie? Either way, I'm flattered. I was getting lonely without the company.

Hn. This is too easy.

Hey. You all wanna die? Huh? Then stay outta the Heaven ( Read more... )

I'd say these things are definitely not from 'heaven'. Nasty.

[Soft, padding footsteps as Shyna has to run to keep pace with Dan.]

Aren't these ever going to run out?!

Tell that to Kun Lan. [Dan scoffs, calmly walking along at his own pace despite the streams of blood pouring from a downed Heaven Smile in front of him]

Guess we have to go to the source.

[Seriously, gross. For Shyna, 'stream' might as well be 'river'.] Who's Kun Lan?

[She blinks, and then, realization dawns.] You mean the thing that crashed into that building earlier? I saw people on the network talking about a 'satellite'...

... Wait, these things are aliens?!

An old friend. Huh. Of an old man. [He smiles wryly]

Not the satellite. The building it crashed into.

Tch. They're more human than you think, kid.

Doesn't sound like much of a friend to me. [Sarcasm is generally lost on her. Not that she's dumb, exactly, but she seems to be in the habit of answering statements with either the obvious or what most people would leave unsaid.]

...So they were here before, but weren't a problem? That's just all kinds of messed up... But I think the satellite's worth looking at. Maybe it can tell us more about this place.

... ... ...

Apparently not much of a chess player either.

Guess not. [He pauses for a moment, then looks back at Shyna. Or more like down. Either way.] Save the mystery for later. You should be more concerned about not getting yourself killed first.

[Ouch, right where it hurts. Being useless isn't something she enjoys; at least when she was confused before, it was usually a matter of beating up someone until she got answers. Er. Not that she was a thug or anything.]

Right. ...Clearing these things out first would be a good idea, since it's kind of hard to collect any data with exploding things right over your shoulder. [Too bad she's unarmed and using anything like Dan's weapon would send her flying halfway around the world.]

[He doesn't answer, but seems to silently agree. He keeps walking, till they're down to the first floor of the building.]

[but suddenly, he smiles. Don't skimp on the creepiness there, Dan.]

How's about a little trip?

[The question seems to surprise her a little; then again, Dan probably isn't looking for a real answer anyway. Just someone to bounce his punchline off of.

Also, the smiling is real. Creepy. She almost likes him better when he's just shooting things.]

... Sure. Where are we headed?

City Hall.

[Huffing a little, she tugs at the brim of her hat before she nods sharply.]

Let's go!

[The wings on her hat flare out, but weakly.]

You think you can handle it, "Messenger"? Remember, you're on a handicap here.

[He was too. Admittedly things would be peachy with his collateral shot available. But at least he still had his gun.]

... Yeah. But I need to find something to work with. I can still do something if I've got something in my hands.

[Even without her normal array of abilities, she's not a pushover. You don't survive getting assaulted by so many hostile people otherwise.]

[He looks around the floor with a wide, sweeping gaze, before going over to a nearby storage closet. He grabs a broom.]

Can you work with this?

[In answer, Shyna takes the broom from him, testing its weight. The broom is obviously taller than her, at least by a foot, but the handle is made of metal and lightweight (since a heavy broom is only a disincentive to use it). After a few moments, she hefts it over her shoulder, brush-end out like she's the member of some crazy City Sanitation brigade.

And grins.]

Yup!
