Test of Time
This, Tezuka thought as he watched Ennis del Mar clutch Jack Twist’s shirt, was so typical of Fuji. He knew the situation was serious when he realized Fuji hadn’t tried to initiate any sort of physical contact with him throughout the whole movie. He knew there was ulterior motive for this, so he started analyzing the movie and thinking how to apply it to their relationship.
Sexually, the movie was lacking, and really, sex wasn’t the main point of the film. Fuji and him had done far more adventurous things in bed, and he didn’t think that it was some sort of subtle way to ask to top, because Fuji topped as much as he did, and Tezuka loved it (plus Fuji was hardly subtle about that).
Dramatically, certainly that was the main concern of this film, to show the difficulties these two men, who loved each other, had to go through and the people that love them. He had to admit, the film was very realistic and tastefully done. The actors where great at portraying the conflict of loving another man and trying to show an acceptable façade to society. Not any society, but a very conservative one…and the consequences of openly showing how you were. Jack Twist’s death, a testament to the lack of tolerance of people. Tezuka glared, was Fuji afraid of the face they gave to society? He doubted that was the issue, but he should address it all the same.
Romantically, the movie had its moments of sweetness, but most of the time it was raw emotion. He liked that, he didn’t like to put a veil through emotions, he liked to act upon them. At the beginning Ennis denied his affections towards Jack. In a way they both did, because they married women they didn’t really love. Tezuka really couldn’t fathom what Fuji was thinking. This was not their story! It wasn’t even remotely alike. Tezuka would never allow it to be alike.
Tezuka thought more, there had to be something else, something he had overlooked, and it hit him. The test of time, no matter how complicated, how bitter or how much Ennis and Jack suffered, their love lasted until death parted them. They had other lovers, but they were always linked together. Tezuka chuckled. Fuji being insecure, this was something he never expected.

“Did you enjoy the movie?” Fuji asked, smile in place, eyes closed.
“Yes very much.” Tezuka responded, noncommittally, then he sighed, there would be no living with Fuji after this but he had to do it, “I wish I knew how to quit you!”
Then Fuji smiled, and opened his eyes, he understood and moved to hug Tezuka.
“For being a tensai, you were extremely silly.” He kissed Fuji deeply, “You could have just asked and had your answer.”
