Title: Seize the Day
Pairing: TezuFuji; Goldenpair
Rating/Warnings: PG/Angst
Prompt: “Fuji and Eiji in a band, singing to Tezuka and Oishi”
AN: Both songs were written by me... hee~
“Nya, Fuji-kun, these lyrics are so beautifully sad, that they hurt!” said a very emotional Kikumaru Eiji, wiping his eyes off make-believe tears.
Fuji smiled, “Thanks Eiji, I do try.” Eiji looked at him with an inspecting stare, “Did you fight with Tezuka-san again?” Fuji gave him a ‘who me?’ look and just chuckled. “Fuji, one of these days you are going to give Oishi a heart attack, I really don’t understand why you can’t get along with Tezuka-san, he is the president of our label.” Fuji stood up and walked in the direction of the door then he looked back at Eiji, “It’s his fault for not getting along with me.” He resumed his march out of the room.
Four years ago Fuji and Eiji began a band, in which Oishi initially played the drums. Fuji was the vocals and Eiji the guitar. However Oishi’s wrist, which had always been frail due to a bad fall, gave out and he no longer played the drums. However he became the manager of their band. Fuji, being known as a genius in the underground music world, showed that he was able to play the keyboard and with this they moved on.
Their name was Catharsis, which is what many of the early fans said they felt, when listening to their music.

Oishi walked into the room and said hi to Eiji, “I just saw Fuji walk out of the room, he looked annoyed, he didn’t even greet me.” Eiji grimaced and seeking for a different subject proceeded to show the lyrics to Oishi. “These are very good, however Tezuka-san is worried that many of the songs that Fuji is writing are too, let’s say angsty. I was hoping you could try writing something more upbeat.” Oishi smiled nervously and left, he did not notice Eiji’s motion to try to stop him.
Eiji gulped. Sure he had been given the opportunity of a lifetime to express his feelings. But he was really scared about Fuji’s reaction when this was brought up again. He decided that it was worth the risk to be able to finally channel all his emotions through a song. And maybe, just maybe, Oishi would notice.

Fuji walked in on Eiji asleep with a photograph of Oishi and himself smiling. Eiji was rustling Oishi’s hair that somehow, during the course of the years, had gotten curly. Fuji noticed a pile of ripped papers next to Eiji, and that there was one page underneath one of his hands. Beneath the many scratches and scribbles Fuji was able to decipher the following.
Curls
For that person…
Atop your head they sit,
Glistening,
Their chocolate curves,
Softly dancing,
With their patterns of spirals
Enveloping me.
My hands through your hair
Entangled,
My face rests upon them
Buried,
Your unique texture
Comforted me.
As you smile at me
Tenderly,
And then you laugh
Warmly,
I refuse to admit,
That I was staring.
Fuji smiled. In a way he was very happy for Eiji. However, what was marring his happiness was the fact that he knew the exact story behind these lyrics. He decided it was time to pay the ‘boss’ a visit.

Tezuka sighed, he had just received the copies of Syusuuke Fuji’s latest lyrics, from Oishi. Suffice it to say he was not pleased. He just did not want Catharsis to be labeled as one of those depressive bands. And deep down Tezuka also feared something else.
As he started massaging the bridge of his nose said Fuji came barging into his office with his poor secretary in tow, she looked on the verge of having a nervous breakdown, “Tezuka-san, please excuse me, I was not able to stop him!” said the woman close to tears. “Don’t worry Ryuusaki-san, I’ll talk to him.”
Tezuka sighed again, and looked for his migraine pills. He knew that this was going to make his headache escalate into one of those private-cranial-hells.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~
After seeing the secretary’s reaction to him entering unannounced Fuji chuckled. “My, my, your anger is something to be reckoned with, I see how Sakuno-chan, fears you.” Fuji knew that Tezuka was not an angry man, he knew he was actually really kind to his employees in his own weird way. However Fuji wanted to annoy Tezuka, because he, Fuji, was annoyed on his account.
Tezuka glared at Fuji. “Is this because of what I told Oishi about your lyrics? I’m sorry but it’s the truth, you are just one step away of having one of your fans kill themselves.” Fuji’s jaw clenched, “Oh please do not exaggerate, the only reason you want them changed is because you feel an allusion to yourself. Correct?’
Tezuka remained silent. This was what he feared.
“As it is, I don’t mind Eiji’s lyrics, they are rather cute. I just wish you’d stop using Oishi to censure me in such a round-about way. After all Kunimitsu…” Fuji bended over Tezuka’s large wooden desk, and whispered in his ear softly, “we go way back…”

Tezuka shuddered at Fuji’s whisper. He knew Fuji noticed and this infuriated him.
“Please go to my next live performance, Tezuka-san, I really want your feedback on our music.” With this Fuji left, and Tezuka wondered just how he had dated such an aggravating man for so long.
He gathered both of Fuji’s songs, crumpled the pages and threw them away.
~*~*~*~*~*
Fuji had dated Tezuka in Junior High, they had both been obsessed with tennis back then. However if Fuji was honest to himself, he was more obsessed with Tezuka than with tennis.
Fuji had been natural at tennis, a genius. However he lacked the drive to unveil all the potential he possessed. This angered Tezuka, who worked his hardest to become team captain, to no end.
In the end Tezuka could not deal with Fuji anymore and broke up with him. It was painful for him to love someone so much and that that person, would not show his true self to him.
What Tezuka did not see was Fuji’s unwavering devotion towards himself. Tezuka could only see his lack of effort in everything else in life and simply assumed that this translated to their relationship.
They went to different highschools. Fuji went on to meet Eiji and Oishi, and Tezuka got involved in the music business on his own.

The day for the live concert came. The stadium was packed, and Tezuka found himself on one of the VIP seats, berating himself for always falling for Fuji’s schemes. Oishi was seating next to him.
The concert began the lights shining on the stage. Suddenly everything went dark and one lone spotlight focused on Eiji, who began playing a very soft guitar melody. Then Fuji appeared on stage, playing the piano, and the whole ambience of the stadium appeared to have shifted.
Tezuka found his eyes locked on Fuji’s form. He was mesmerized.
Fuji Sang,
“That nasty habit you’ve always had.
You would always leave,
Give me your back,
And never tell me where you were going.
Was it worth it?
That tear streaked look,
That shining smile,
The bloodcurling pain,
It ripped me from the inside.
Was it of no consequence?
It did not matter
I followed you
Although all I could ever glimpse
Was a vague silhouette
Etched in my memory,
Carved into my soul.
Every burning caress,
The searing touch,
Each agonizing breath,
The shimmering eyes,
Now it is all gone.
Suddenly, I cannot catch up,
It’s that nasty habit of yours,
Your road, my road,
It is finally lost,
I never knew, I will never know,
Where you went, where you will go.
Right now you left,
That is all I know.”
As the song ended and the overwhelming claps subsided, Fuji stood up and said, “Thank you so much for coming to our show, the song you just heard is called “Bad Habit” it’s not in any of our records, hoped you liked it!”
Then he handed the microphone over to Eiji, and as Kikumaru sang, “Curls” he could positively feel Oishi fainting and melting at the same time.
~*~*~*~*~*~
When the concert ended, Oishi and Tezuka went to the band’s rooms.
“What the hell were you thinking! Eiji has never performed vocals before! “ Oishi uncharacteriscally yelled at Fuji. “Can you honestly tell me you are not the least bit happy, if you can’t then I must say you are the second densest person I have ever encountered. “ With that Fuji left with a towel around his shoulders and Tezuka following his trail.
Oishi looked at Eiji. “What does that mean?” Eiji got up and hugged Oishi in a desperate way. Oishi closed his eyes, and smiled. He held Eiji tightly, and thanked the heavens that he hadn’t been involved in the one-sided love he thought he was.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Fuji was getting water from the bending machine. Said machine was not cooperating. Fuji started kicking it.
“That won’t work. It has a trick.” Tezuka walked up to Fuji and tilted the machine somewhat, Fuji’s water came out.
Fuji felt tempted to not get the water. But he was nearly dehydrated.
“When did you write that song?” Tezuka asked, Fuji was too busy drinking water, to answer, however.
“Was it after we broke up?” Tezuka persisted, Fuji’s eyebrow twitched.
Fuji left. He had become a master at running away.
~*~*~*~*~*~
Fuji did not show up to work the following two days. It was after a week of disappearance and when he would not answer Eiji’s calls that Tezuka worried.
He called Oishi’s apartment, to get Fuji’s address, and was not surprised when Eiji answered the phone with an, “EEP! It’s Tezuka-san, Syuichiroh!”
He got the address and walked to Fuji’s apartment. He did not answer the bell and was only able to enter the building after slipping in after another woman for whom they had opened the door.
He stood in front of Fuji’s apartment. The door was locked. Fuji wouldn’t answer his knocks, and he was slowly becoming insane. He kicked open the door, and the stench of alcohol filled up his nostrils. There sprawled the huge king size bed, lied Fuji.
He walked over to him hurriedly and checked his pulse and breathing. He was just sleeping. Feeling relieved he tried waking him up. Fuji’s eyes opened, clouded at first, and then realizing Tezuka was above him, they became an angry electric blue.
“What are you doing here!” He screamed. Tezuka lost it. “You have missed a week of work! And you haven’t answered Kikumaru’s calls! We have been worried...I’ve been worried!” Tezuka scrunched up his nose.
“Really. You shouldn’t have. What is it? Is the smell getting to you? Sorry, it was the only way I used to escape after we broke up. It seems I am having a relapse. “Fuji chuckled.
“I don’t get it. You were never inspired to play, to get good grades, you never made an effort. I thought you considered me a fleeting fancy, another facet of your life not worth the effort.” Tezuka said.
“Saa… You were always so very good at noticing everything about a person, except the most glaring facts. In my case you missed the fact that you were my inspiration. I did everything involving you with a passion that left no room for anything else in my life. When you left it was as if a flame was blown off, so to speak.” Fuji said with a smile that soon turned into an expression on shock when he saw Tezuka’s eyes filled with what suspiciously looked like tears. Then suddenly he was being kissed hungrily, desperately, with lips that wanted to drink from the very pool of his heart and soul.
“I will not walk away again. So please, stop running away, Syuusuke.” Tezuka said, his forehead pressed to Fuji’s.
“I’ll try not to.” Fuji said, through his window the dawn of a new day was seeping through. And they both smiled, knowing what this meant.
Seize the day.
