Today I did the thing I needed to do! Yay!
I read this week's One Piece today, and on the one hand holy shit awesome \o/!!! And on the other, I want to fucking strangle Odacchi, because he's just. Such a fucking misogynist asshole, and a;lsd ARGH. >:[ Seriously, when it comes to nonmale characters he's vile - he does let them be awesome! He gets like. Half a cookie for that (out of. Iono, ten), because that's better than a lot of similarly-vile creators, but that really says a lot about. Well. How fucked a lot of this stuff is. :|
And I love the One Piece 'verse a lot but holy fuck it needs more women. Women that are awesome! Women that aren't awesome! Women that're different shapes and sizes and temperaments! And fuck. Could we just have main character women whose appearance - bodyshape, clothing, everything - makes sense for that character, in that situation? I mean. Nami. Crossing the desert. In heels. I don't even. Also: muscles! They're fighters, all of them, they should have some visible muscles! Particularly Robin, as a fuckton of her techniques are ALL ABOUT HER ARMS. I just. Gaaaah. :| :| :|
Anyway, uh. Fandom Snowflake! Day 12: In your own space, rec at least three fanworks that you think would make a good intro into XYZ fandom. Rec a fandom overview, a introductory picspam, stories that define and shape the fandom. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.
Uhhh. HEY WAIT WIKIS TOTALLY COUNT AS FANWORKS. There's two major English ones that I know of, for Kingdom Hearts:
here and
here. I like the first one 'cause the formatting works better on my browser. (Please note that a lot of the character information is personal interpretation on behalf of whoever wrote the article, and my not be accurate, even when it treats it like gospel! But they're good for tech things, and the general gist of the games.)
And then I'd probably point you towards
cypher and
harukami's stuff, that seems to be the two high-level fandom classics. Oh! And
rabbitprint, though a lot of his stuff isn't to my taste and/or I have no desire to reread, though they're certainly very well written and IC. Just don't hit my buttons, I guess.
There's also
Believe in the Kingdom Come, which is awesome, and is worth the read no matter what you're into; it's more or less a gen world-building character study. About baths (and also memories, and stress, and growing up). Slightly AU, in that it fuses FFVIII canon with KH canon, but it works. It really works.
In battles, the only blood Sora ever spilled was his own.
