8 - Do you write OCs? And if so, what do you do to make certain they're not Mary Sues, and if not, explain your thoughts on OCs.
When I need to, and I don't do anything, really. I mean, I try and make them real people, and different from each other, not cookie-cutters, but really, if any of my characters can be accused of Suedom it's gonna be the canon characters. That's how they are in canon. Sora's probably the biggest Sue ever! And Roxas keeps getting carried away in my head to the point where suspension of disbelief stops working, so. Try and be careful, particularly with those two. I don't tend to write OCs in starring roles (except for that one Dana backstory fic, but she's only semi-OC, anyway, so.)
I also tend to base them roughly on real people I've known - pokémon!AU Roxas' coworkers, for example, are all people I've worked with, kindasortavaguelymaybeabit, or at least they have similar names - so I guess that's a thing.
I guess you could say the WM!Roxas-verse assassins are Sues, but for fuck's sake they're state-employed master assassins at the top of their department's merit-based food chain, of course they're badass. It would be breaking the universe for them not to be. *rolls eyes*
Mary Sue's a pretty fucking loaded term, anyway. I mean, as a description of a particular subset of badfic it's not bad, but it's bigger than that now, and it tends to be used in a particularly misogynistic way, so. I have problems with it. (People say Xion's a Sue, for example. You can justify that. BUT if you say she's a Sue than so are ALL THE OTHER MAIN CHARACTERS IN THE ENTIRE SERIES. If you're fine with that then okay, I guess that's fair. If you're not, just. I don't think I can talk to you without wanting to fucking slap you, because seriously? Seriously? Fuck that shit. I'm not saying you have to like her, but if you're being a bigoted asshat to 'justify' it just. Don't fucking talk to me.)
