Last night I went to a tea party, and by tea party I mean an 18th birthday party in which alcohol was drunk from tea cups, and food included cupcakes and jelly.

Horribly, I was in fact the oldest person there, even Ellie's older sister, Ros, is in fact younger than me. And they were all talking about A levels and starting university and I felt like an alien species - someone who had already started university!

Then this morning, some idiot down their road reversed into my parked car and left a huge dent in its side. Fortunately they were considerate enough to leave insurance details so at least it shall be fixed, but baaahhh.

Watching the closing ceremony for the Beijing Olympics today with something similar to embarrassment and fear that this, of all ceremonies, is the one the Britain has to follow. Never will we be able to even halve the scale of the Beijing Olympics, they were terrific, and England - well, we have culture but generally its better not to remind countries of how we conquered them, or were conqured by them - and as today gave evidence, we are going to be portraying ourselves as modern and multicultured. Joy.

Watching Michael Mcintyre live at the Apollo is a wonderful example of how London Olympics ar egoing to turn out.
