"Plans to make schoolchildren take part in citizenship ceremonies, pledging allegiance to the Queen, and a new public holiday to celebrate "Britishness" were announced today as part of wide-ranging proposals to strengthen British citizenship." quoth the Guardian.

Speaking as a mother of unborn generations, I'm against it.* Seriously though, what kind of rubbish is this? Like we need to learn patriotism? Its not like its a good thing, patriotism is the reason other countries hate playing England in football. It makes people violent. Patriotism has been abused, not to compare the Labour Goverment to Hitler, or anything.

And I am in no way encouraging an Oath of Allegiance to the Queen. I mean, I'm fairly content in the existence of the Royal Family because blah blah blah integral part of the country and culture blah, but I certainly wouldn't be prepared to swear an oath to an old woman who just happened to be who she is because of the situation of her birth. So fair to say I'm petty much against this, althooough an extra bank holiday wouldn't go amiss - we have far fewer than the rest of Europe.

Anywaaaay, I got sidetracked, what I really wanted to talk about was festival lineups.

I was having a look at Download (camping tickets costing 150 pounds...) and being tempted, because although the lineup isn't as great this year, for me, I would like to see Children of Bodom, wouldn't mind seeing In Flames again and likewise to Apocalyptica and Within Temptation. Also 36 Crazyfists could be good and Judas Preist and Kiss would be worth watching. And a few more.

Bloodstock Open Air is less tempting for me this year (and tickets more pricey at 85 pounds) bands Tyr, Eluveitie and Moonsorrow are all playing at Paganfest in April anyway, and to be honest I'm currently not a particular fan of any of them. I'm seeing Nightwish later in the month and I'm still unconverted as a fan of Annete's vocals. Alestorm should be a laugh because pirate metal! But they are nothing special, and whilst I didn't mind Dimmu Borgir live I'm not an actual fan I just can't get into black metal. Helloween could be amausing. I don't mind Soilwork and quite like Iced Earth... but theres nothing that really stands out as of yet.

So I guess I need to wait for a few more bands to be announced and consider.

*"Serve everyone right if all the nucleur bombs went off and it all started again, only prop'ly organised," said Adam. "Sometimes I think that's what I'd like to happen. An' then we could sort everythin' out."
"Dunno about the we, because, if theres all these bombs goin' off, we all get blown up. Speaking as a mother of unborn generations, I'm against it."
I'm reading Good Omens again. Its far more interesting than De Quincey and his tales of opium eating, kthx.
