It seems that nobody reads userinfo, so two points for those of you who missed them :)
1. I don't write here any more. I do use it to comment and write to communities, but if you're at all interested in my life, the journal to read is
pringle. I don't add people as friends to that journal to avoid all the lovely friends list issues that occur.. However,

I'd rather this, than for people to leave me off their default views or skip every one of my posts. *nod*

the journals on my friends list just happen to be the ones i like to read, and if that means i have more communities than real people, so be it :oD

I can't write unless I think people are going to read it. This way I can be fairly sure that people who've added pringle have done so purely because they want to read what I'm writing, and no other reason. As I have said, I found typical completely impossible to write in by the end - that's why I switched journals in the first place...
I like to read the journals of several people I'm sure can't be arsed to read mine. *grin*

I find friends politics as something to be avoided too - especially userinfo stating "Don't expect me to add you back automatically..." - like why not just leave to someone to take hint? I still do add back people automatically, because I have this thing that everyone might be wonderfully interesting or may come up with interesting thing not to miss...then mental image is formed of them - even of 100 people...which is fun...
And you seem to be in Cambridge a lot - were you student there yourself? (just guessing, never mind...)...

I know what you mean about giving people chance to prove themselves. It's a shame that "I want to read your posts" and "I want you to read my private posts" end up being the same thing without a lot of trouble, really.
Yes, I was at Cambridge, though many of my current friends there I didn't actually meet though university - and indeed, some only moved there after I'd left :)

Yes, distinction between "i want to read you" and "i want you to read me" is tricky...esp when one gives out lots of private details...The Russians (second majority of users after English-speaking) use LJ more like to pretend they are The Times opinion columnists or something, gracefully or not.
And pure guess (and impertinence!) again - did you by any chance happen to be a mathmo? ;)

I know what you mean - there are apparently moves afoot to change this. I don't know. They shouldn't be the same thing. Plenty of English speakers blog their own oped type columns too - but most are rather tiring (hence why they're blogging and not writing for newspapers...)
Yes, I studied maths for 2 years before switching to engineering.
