Virginia Tech
Going to class was pretty tough today after what befell VA-Tech yesterday. For those that haven't heard, a gunman swept through and killed 32 students whose only crime was to attend class or be in their dorm. Check out any news site and you'll find more info. In the midst of this tragedy, at least one hero can be found. Most, if not all websites cite the death toll at 33, including the gunman who committed suicide. I find this morally outrageous and incredibly disrespectful to those lives he callously cut short. For his life to be equated with those of the dead innocents is tragic in its own right. That's a mercy that only God has the power to give; I know I certainly don't.
Our thoughts and best wishes go out to those affected by this tragedy. It hits close to home for many of us and will certainly cause a lot of review in the near future. Already people are slinging around blame, hoping to connect with anyone or anything, but I don't believe that this can be blamed on violent video games, bad parenting, or a hard life. This is one individual who could not handle his own emotions and now 32 people are dead. I'm sure we'll hear all sorts of psych profiling and analyses, but the point seems a bit moot right now.
Now, I have to go back to WSUV for my Bio class. I can only hope that it is a long time before something like this happens again.
