Paul fired Mark yesterday.

That was really upsetting to all of us, there.

Mark was one of the guys who hired me. He's been with the company for ten years. He's been the personal friend of Paul, the owner, for longer than he's worked at the company, and he was totally dedicated. He worked late every day, and weekends all the time. He really worked to make working there easier and better for all of us. Plus he practically ran the whole company while Paul was taking care of his sick (since deceased) wife.

You'd think of anyone in the company, his job would be somewhat secure.

But it wasn't because he was doing anything inappropriate on the job, or anything. The profits for one of the catalogs we do weren't good enough. He, as far as the rest of us know, didn't even get any warning. Just yesterday he was told he had to be out by today.

Heck of a thing to do to your friend.

I really liked working here, but this shakes my faith in the company a lot. It wasn't even that the company lost money, or wasn't making a profit, just not enough of a profit.

I had kind of hoped to be at this company for a few years, but I'm no longer sure that I want to work at a place that wouldn't even give a guy that's been there ten years two weeks to find a new job just because some numbers are down.
