You know how you can play a game at someone's house and have the best time and come away feeling like that was the greatest game ever - then you play it with your family and you wish the game had included a hammer so you could smash your brains out?
My parents, my brother and I finally sat down to play Nautilus tonight.
Nautilus is a strategy board game along a similar vein as Carcossone and Settlars of Catan. You build modules, take submarines out and discover treasure, and collect victory points. Whoever has the most victory points at the end of the game wins.
We played this the first time over at GreyCloak's house. It was so much fun, and I really wanted to play it again.
So we finally broke it out tonight with the family.
Between my mother not paying attention then asking every single turn what she shoud do and what each of the modules meant, my father taking about three hours to discuss each move of every turn, and my brother misremembering, then checking every single rule in the game, I darn near bludgeoned myself to death with one of those fishy little submarines.
Aargh.
That's two and a half hours that I will NEVER get back.
Gah. Maybe next time we play, now that almost everyone know the correct rules, we'll have fun. Tonight, though...
Well, maybe it was just me. I'm exhausted anyway. This weekend was jam packed, and I haven't recovered yet. We threw a housewarming for two couples and that took up most of Saturday. Sunday was just busy. I'm really, really tired.
By the way, if I've missed any important posts of yours, I'm so sorry. This is the first time I've been back to LJ for at least a couple of weeks, and just to update really quickly.
