Accuracy of grand conspiracy or not, I'm generally willing to believe the "Catholic Church suppressing as much pagan and feminine symbolism as possible, in order to extend and expand its own regime" parts of the story/history presented in the novel--it rings true enough with everything else I've heard about the Church over the years. :\

I guess what's most frustrating to me is the people who don't take the time to research or learn the facts, then try to instruct me on religious history using a fictional novel. It doesn't make any sense to me.
I completely agree with you that the catholic church was willing to do just about whatever it took to take control of the government. Some of the historical records of the rise of the papal system and the knights templar are terribly gruesome and hypocritical. Most of their core beliefs and all of their holidays are based on pagan philosophy.
Still, the DaVinci Codes is fiction. To treat it as if it were fact and believe blindly without any research into fact just angers me. It just feels wrong.
