Spring break has started. I got to spend a decent chunk of time reading for pleasure on campus today, in the sun. One of my profs saw me reading, though, and said, "Oh, I remember pleasure reading." I can't decide whether she was being honest or melodramatic.
So, ye PhDs, or those married to them, how much time to you get to set aside for pleasure reading?
Also, I had an odd experience today. I led class in a seminar, and this is apparently not normative. Only eight people in the class (normally 11). Only 1 hour 15 minutes. At Vassar, this was extremely common - get paired with someone else in the class and lead a 3-hour seminar session. Was this my Vassar education, small liberal-arts college education, or is Cornell just weird?
