So I am enrolling in a new D&D 4e campaign. Now, ever since I started playing Werewolf in High School, I've been a mite bit snotty about the superiority of making a setting trump system, and stats come after character development and history, tweaking the class to the character. I've sort of decided to go in the opposite direction with this, and I think it will be better. I've come up with the basic concept, Street Urchin. Then I'm going to simply make a character who will be fun to play in combat. Once I've got the character sheet all made, I'm going to ask myself, "What kind of a personality would he have if he has these skills? Where did he learn this stuff?" And tweak the history to fit the character sheet. I think it fits better with the D&D 4e model of doing things, and I think will make for a more fun playing experience.
