Movies

Alright, I've never particularly cared about posting here since I usually just leave comments on other people's work.  However, I figure I might as well post something.

The new Watchmen movie is coming out soon.  I'm a fan.  Not a crazy one, but I've fallen back into the fandom aspect of it and all I can say is that it's because of the film.  Why?  There's a lot of post-movie fans that are going to pop up and I don't want to seem like an elitist.

For instance, POTO phans.  Some of them are quite elitist in the fact that they don't like the new phanbrats that have popped up - but I do have to admit that there is quite a few, but hell, it's increased the number of people in the fandom and that can't be all that bad, right?

Then there's Batman and Xmen and LXG and Constantine... the list goes on.

Come on.  These people are movie bandwagon-ers, right?  At one point, I held some disdain for them because they're all up in my fandom, messing with the characters when they don't know anything about the history.  All they know is the movie which isn't always the best representation of canon.  Movies necessarily mess with timelines and character involvements and all that good stuff.  And while I can handle it in movies - since I already expect it to occur, it used to annoy me when fans just didn't give a damn.  So yeah, it used to piss me off.  Used to.

Not so much anymore because any fandom is better than no fandom, right?  A lot of crap will be posted about my favorite characters and then there may be fandom wars and arguments and whatever in the midst of it all, but through all that crap, something good will /have/ to be posted as well, right?

The power of statistics.

I figure depending on how popular a film gets you can determine the "good shit to crap" ratio.  Let's see.  POTO: 1:100 (no really, I don't know how many Mary-Sues, abusive!Raouls, misspelled Erik's I've seen in my life, but damn; 100 would've been higher if people posted more, but all I can say is that I'm an avid fan of the phanwank community and that's what's keeping me even remotely attached to POTO).

I foresee a 1:500 ratio for Watchmen.  I expect it to really do well in the theatres (mostly because I'm a fan and come on... Watchmen has always been brilliant.  It's undeniable and now /everyone/ will know it).  Maybe it's because of the pairing I like and the fact that I've exhausted every resource I know in reading fanfiction for it.  I need MOAR!  And that's what I'm waiting for.  I'm waiting for the masses to realize what's been fact all along and get with the program and then write more fanfiction I can read.

Isn't it sad how that's the only reason I don't get frustrated with people who only use movie as resources?  Or how whether or not they do justice to the work itself?  It's not the worst sin ever in fandom.

Watchmen.  March 6, 2009.

Watch it.  Be amazed.  Write some good Nite Owl II/Rorschach fanfiction.  :D
