Pre-trip post....

So... We're leaving sunday for my bi-annual long trip to CA, 3 weeks in this case :o
Lots to get ready of course. 3 weeks away from the homestead is a lot of time away... Today I've gone over all the logistics, hotel stays, car rentals, travel, rsvps, and air travel.

This is to be my last long trip I think. I am passing on my position as Tech Team Lead, so I will no longer be responsible for 15 folks, which is a great relief, in particular during the two major review periods each year hahaha... My new position is in the Dev Team as a 'Project Lead' which is amusing since I'll be a project lead with a team of Me.

Need to start looking at getting a PMP, maybe I'll get a chance to do that in my new position... hopefully no more regular 10hr days.

Around the homestead:
1. We've bought guns. We now have a Mossberg 500 pump shotgun, 20 gauge, and a Ruger 10/22, in stainless and synthetic stock. I've put in a 3-9x rimfire scope on it. Now the next step... rifle class :) That'll have to wait till I get back. Can't WAIT.
2. We've not done our fall round of trail maintenance, I am looking forward to breaking out the chainsaw :D
3. In the continuing work around the house, uncle Forrest Lee and I've blown-in 75 bags of Cellulose insulation over the last 2 days... We went up and put in boxes to keep insulation off of the can lights, and installed the soffit vents. OMG my forearms were KILLING me last night, some serious pain because I had to break up each bundle into VERY small pieces to make sure it fed correctly. We've now gone from NO insulation in some places to R-38 all the way across. We found some disturbing things, like the bathroom fans vented straight into the insulation in the attic (no vent tubes), and that the vent for the centre bathroom vented right into the roof... not through the roof, but onto the underside wooden sheathing. It's pretty gross.
3. I've extended the coop... or started to, need an hour more, and we can combine the two flocks...It'll be TONS easier maintenance.
4. Time to harvest some of the Guineas! They'll be part of our Thanksgiving meal :) I'm looking forward to it being QUIETER hahaha... I'm tempted to harvest 4 of them and just keep a few.
5. ALL of our chickens are moulting or something... We're actually OUT OF EGGS :(

Have a ton of shopping to get done. Some fresher shirts to replace the work shirts I've worn through, extra feed to make sure we're well stocked. Food for our house sitter and friend who's staying with us. It'll all happen, but it just seems a bit overwhelming and being away for 3 weeks takes a bit of logistics. Off to settle the kids down and start prepping the stuff I need to butcher the guineas.
