It's been an odd week. That's all I can say about it, really. Some ups, some downs, and I continue to float around without being capable of deciding on a direction to take myself.
I had a job interview lined up with Geico insurance company. It sounded sort of blah, but I was looking forward to the possibility of a new job. More specifically, I was looking forward to better pay, hours and benefits. So much so in fact that I wound up spending $350 that I didn't actually have on a new tailored suit to wear to the interview, in hopes that it would boost my odds any little bit. Wound up getting a call on Friday, politely informing me that all positions had been filled. Don't bother coming in for your interview, but thanks for applying with us all the same! At least I've still got the suit, right? No place to actually wear it to, but...shhh. We're not talking about that right now.
So my search continues, but it's not exactly an easy road when your primary marketable skill is retail sales. Not a lot of room for growth there, I've found. So I either wind up working two crappy jobs, or admit that San Diego has defeated me and go back where I came from. Neither are particularly thrilling options, but what can you do? I think I'll apply for the new Best Buy on Monday. My only concern is trying to figure out how to work two jobs and fit a school schedule in on top of it. Guess we'll have to wait and see how it goes.
On the weirder side, I went down and got myself a Blockbuster Video membership in order to wile away the time without having to actually pay full price for movies that usually end up being crap anyway. Wow have things changed since the last time I had a movie membership. "No fees on late returns!" Blockbuster advertises now. Hey, cool, right? Yeah! Until you read the fine print and find out that instead of late fees they just charge you for the full retail price of the movie. Nice! It's okay though, I'll just have to be sure not to be late when returning my movies and overpriced PS2 games ($6.99 for Final Fantasy 12? Come on now, really!)
Rented Stardust. Man, I love that movie. I want to buy it now. I liked the original book, but the movie was (and I do believe this is the first time in the history of movies I've ever said this) far better in my opinion. Yeah, it was much more "Hollywood" and had a different (read: happier) ending than the original, but the end result was putting me in a really good mood, so I don't see any problems with this.
Random: I've also joined a GURPS group out of the blue. It's been fun. I'd been on serious RPG burnout for almost a year, and I'm still not entirely sure I'm "back into the game" yet, so to speak. It's nice to have somewhere to go and like-minded people to associate with again though, so I'll give it a chance. I've also found GURPS to be a far more interesting set of game mechanics than Wizard of the Coast's D20 system, which is the modern basis of Dungeons & Dragons. It's kind of refreshing to be doing something totally different this time around.
