Update on Tyler…Thursday, March 31, 2011

by Cathy Culpepper on Thursday, March 31, 2011 at 9:52pm

Tyler is having a hard day today. He is swollen badly but the doctor said this is expected for a few days. He has been throwing up due to his body adjusting to the medicine he is taking and probably from some of the after effects of the surgery. There has been blood in it where Tyler has swallowed to keep from choking. He has also had blood dripping from his mouth due to the jaw surgery. This is normal for a few days but not easy to watch.

Due to the swelling of his jaw, he is unable to eat. Right now all he is eating is jello and it hasn’t been much of that. The hospital will not release him to the Ronald McDonald House until he is able to eat something on his own. This could be as early as Friday or Saturday afternoon.

Tyler’s leg is doing fine so far. Today the nurse put him in a hospital wheelchair and let him sit in it for about 10 minutes. He did well. Tomorrow they will try again several times throughout the day.

Tyler has not complained one time. He tries to talk to his Mom and his Nanny but with the swelling it comes out as mumbling. They have been able to understand him and it’s always “I’m ok” or “I love you”.

Ashley, Tyler’s Mom, is doing a lot better now. She talked to her husband and the other two children at home are doing well. Dad is taking good care of them.

Nanny….well she is worried about how they will get Tyler home to South Carolina. The plane is not equipped to transport him back so George and Nathan may have to make the 12 hour trip and bring everyone back home in the van.

On top of that, they haven’t been able to get Tyler a wheelchair to bring home that will support his right leg being kept straight. Darlene, hospital, and Ronald McDonald House is trying to find one. He will need it for 6-8 weeks at least, if not longer.

Everything has worked out thus far so the family has hope that these 2 issues will work themselves out too.

Tyler loves to receive mail. He can receive cards if you would like to send him one. The address is:

Thank you goes out to everyone for your prayers and love you have shown this family during this difficult time. Please continue to pray for Tyler as he still has a long way to go.
