By now, Algren certainly knew better than to hold back simply because he was up against a student. And, after his time spent in Japan, he was fairly confident that he could get through his match without resorting to hair pulling.

He was smiling slightly as he stepped onto the mat with only the faintest catch in his step.

Bruce stepped onto the mat. Considering Algren taught a class on Japanese culture and was in Fight Club, Bruce felt like he might at least have an idea of what to expect.

"Are you ready?" Bruce asked, giving a respectful bow.

Algren returned the bow, just as deeply and respectfully, and when he straightened, he gave the boy a smile.

"If I'm not ready, then I have no business being here, do I?"

He slid one foot backwards, putting himself into a ready stance. The bow was at least a slight indication of what he might see from Bruce, but all things considered, he had a suspicion that he was going to find himself on the defensive for a while regardless.

"Good point." Bruce felt that he might as well start strong. He took two quick steps forward before leaping into a jumpkick aimed at Algren's chest.

And that right there, that would be about what Algren supposed he could anticipate from the boy. He sidestepped, lifting an arm to block the foot that was headed his way, and then moved forward himself, bringing his elbow up and swinging it back toward Bruce's jaw.

Bruce would have the upper-hand in this fight. Algren wasn't half as mobile as he had been before that whole mess with the gatling guns.

It seemed like Algren did know what he was doing. Fortunately for Bruce, it also seemed like Bruce had a definite speed advantage. He ducked the attack and made a grab for the elbow in an attempt to throw Algren to the ground.

Algren hit the ground, ducking his head and going into a roll. It was about halfway through the roll that he realized he hadn't been certain he could handle such a roll in the first place, and it was with his teeth slightly grit that he finished that roll on his feet, old injuries complaining about the movement with a sharp pang.

This wasn't going to stop him from putting his hands up again, however, and facing Bruce again.

"Nicely done," he offered.

"Thank you, Good recovery," Bruce said, shifting into a defensive stance. He motioned with one hand for Algren to try attacking him this time.

And who would Algren be if he turned down an invitation like that? He gave a brief nod, shifting his weight sideways for a few steps, looking for an opening. And when he did move forward, it wasn't that he realized that he'd necessarily found one, so much as the fact that he'd simply decided that he was going to have to make one.

What he was lacking in footwork at present, he was going to make up for with his fists, throwing a punch hard and low for Bruce's stomach, and then another for his chest with his other hand in quick succession.

Bruce blocked the first punch, but the second connected, knocking him back a step. He was a little faster with his punching than Bruce thought he would be. He'd keep that in mind for the rest of the fight.

Bruce used the newly gained distance to throw a side kick at Algren's gut. As opposed to a sidekick. Poor Robin.

That sound there would be the sound of the mun giggling forever the air being forced from Algren's lungs as Algren was forced to take a few steps of his own backwards in order to catch himself. He made the mental note to take up jogging or something like it, forced himself to pull in another deep breath of air, and then moved forward again.

He could ignore the ache for the sake of swinging another punch at Bruce's side.

The pause for Algren to get his air back gave Bruce enough time to prepare. He caught Algren's punch and turned his body to attempt a Judo throw over his shoulder.

Hello, mat.

"I have the feeling that I'm going to become fairly well-acquainted with this position for a while."

The one where he was picking himself up from the flat of his back, and all. He was getting too damn old for this.

"Sorry. I'll try to use things other than throws a little more," Bruce promised, giving Algren a moment to get himself ready again.

"And why should you? It's working," Algren pointed out, raising an eyebrow as he slipped back into his ready stance. "If I can't avoid your throws, Mr. Wayne, then that's my problem, not yours."
