The way Rufus kept on hiding from him, sitting in that vulnerable position and covering himself, just made Tyki salivate more, regretting letting him up and not pushing things even further.
But he was reining himself in. Hard.
"Oh? I thought you at least pretended to be principled. Are you suggesting that I go find some innocent person to torture and kill? Some random person I might find on a street somewhere, perhaps?" he asked, chuckling.
"Or perhaps you have someone in mind?"
That last was said with honest curiosity, as he leaned a little closer again.
Figuring out Rufus' location thankfully didn't take long; Dark didn't think he could manage running around for five days just to find him a second time. The fact that Rufus' life was burning a little bit stronger helped tremendously, and Dark materialized into the room the moment he found it, feathers falling onto the floor.
A tanned bare back could have been anyone, but Tyki's unique aura couldn't be hid from Dark, nor could where Rufus was. Without bothering to think first, Dark called out his wings and flicked them forward, sending hundreds of black feathers right into Tyki's back. Each one went in halfway through all at once.
Tyki wasn't expecting a dark-winged angel to suddenly appear behind him and shower him with razor-sharp feathers. He jerked in surprise when he felt the pain, and reflexively went immaterial to avoid the rest. That might have saved him from even worse scarring, or even saved his life.
Several dozen feathers buried themselves in his back, and the majority of them went through him.
He pitched forward, his eyes wide with shock, and caught himself on his hands and knees, swearing as blood dropped onto the sheets. He turned slightly, his lips parted as he gasped, and glared at Dark.
Dark didn't dare take his chances by wasting any time around Tyki. He wouldn't have minded giving him a good punch in the jaw or two, but getting Rufus out was more important. With Tyki briefly stunned by the attack, Dark ran over to gather Rufus in his arms, collecting the sheet with him. His life felt fine, thank god - nothing like when Krad trapped him inside a painting.
A small note fell to the floor alongside the feathers. On it, written in elegant cursive, was Tonight, I will steal Rufus ShinRa back. Dark.
"Just getting my property back," he said, grinning at Tyki. "No one steals from me."
He hugged Rufus closer to his chest and folded his wings around them to teleport back to their vacation home. They still had a few days left, after all.
Tyki was still swearing between gasps of pain. He couldn't remember ever being so angry in his life, and it was at least partly at himself. How could he have been so unprepared for an attack? There were feathers all over the bedspread in front of him - the ones which hadn't actually buried themselves in his back.
He could have been killed.
"I wasn't...the fucking one...who fucking kidnapped him..." he gasped, though he didn't really expect Dark to believe him. "I was about... to rescue him!"
And a flurry of angry butterflies erupted from inside the Noah, aimed at getting a bit of vengeance for the attack. The air between them turned black and the room was filled with the fluttering sound of wings as the butterflies arrowed straight at Dark.
Dark already knew that Kid was the one responsible, but all their previous encounters with Tyki before was a bad enough trigger. But by the sound of what Rufus was saying, it looked like nothing had happened between him and Tyki. This time, at least.
"I know that, but take the note anyway. Free souvenir." With one last 'heh,' he and Rufus disappeared before the butterflies could catch them first, leaving more of his trademark black feathers swirling around.
Tyki heard Rufus' words and the butterflies actually slowed, not because Rufus sounded like Zechs to him, but because it wasn't the sort of sentiment he had expected. He'd expected Rufus to be bitching him out right back, or telling him he deserved it.
As such, they disappeared before the butterflies could catch them, and Tyki slumped forward onto the bed.
He knew the doorway home wasn't far away. If he could just get up, walk over to the doorway, he'd be back in the Ark. But he couldn't quite convince his body that standing up was a good idea.
He closed his eyes and lay still, his blood staining the sheets.
