"Administering the death penalty is the sad admission of a government that not only is it not capable of dealing with its anti-social elements, but it also stopped trying."
It is not the place of man to decide if another man will live or die. This is why we punish murderers: they ignore this rule and take it upon themselves to distribute death. The death penalty likewise violates this rule, and is likewise murder.
Murdering a murderer is still murder.
The only reason we can't let serial killers escape is because they pose a threat to human life. We value human life and human comfort, and we have to defend this principle against criminals. But it is internally contradictory to compromise a principle for the sake of defending a principle. Killing a human life to protect human life is extremely questionable behavior, especially when the killing is not even close to being the only solution.
