I've been interviewing with a company. After a phone interview, a face-to-face with 2 senior personnel and a morning of shadowing and further interviewing. On this last day, a week back friday, I sat down with one of them and they offered me the job. I told them that I greatly enjoyed the place and was interested but there was also another job on the table and I would need the weekend to consider. He said that he would want me to have all the time I needed and he would have to check my references. I asked point blank, "So, I should treat this as a job offer" he answered that of course he would have to check my references but that they wanted me and I was very intelligent and they were excited but yes. I then took my time to weigh. I talked to the other job, they couldn't match, so I decided to go with the job.
Bright and early Monday morning I called to tell them that I accepted their offer. They let me know that they were excited and that they only had one more reference to get a hold of. I told them to let me know if they needed help as I also had cell numbers. Now I know all of my references gave me glowing reviews, one even emailed to let me know that he was so happy about the review he gave, if I was in the are, he would want to hire me again. So, later that day I get another call. This time he sounds embarrassed on the phone. He says that it seems their regional director is coming in the next day and wants to talk to me, could I come in. I say okay, what else can I do?
Now, I'm hoping and thinking that this is only a formality. I mean after the glowing week before... So I go in. The woman barely takes 15 minutes with me and goes to do other calls. Then one of the supervisors comes in and tells me that they will let me know by the end of the week. WTF?! From a job offer to let me know by the end of the week. I then start to worry, but we hope that it is just a formality to let someone flex muscles. So, we wait and wait. One of the longest weeks of my life. I call on Friday cause I haven't heard anything and the guy who offered me the job says that he has to check with people as they haven't given him the final word. He then calls back almost at closeing to tell me that the Regional Director does not feel that I have enough experience so they can't go forward. I'm in shock. I tell him a week before he offered me the job and thought I had enough experience. He tells me that he still wants me and would bring me in to start the next day, but that the decision is out of his hands now.
So, 2 people who spent a lot of time and effort to interview me and have me shadow and checked my refereneces thinks I can do the job, but one person who didn't even spend 20 minutes talking to me has determined that I can't.
It's a big blow and I'm very hurt and frustrated and now instead of 2 jobs to look at I'm back to none because of one companies actions. I'm just really emotionally drained. And what's worse, is my husband is too. I'm hurting him with this and I'm trying to make it better and I dont' know why it's so hard. I'm educated, and have some experience. No, I finished school recently so I don't have 10 years of experience that everyone want, but I'm a hard worker (go ask any of my bosses) and I'm a quick learner (look at all the stuff I've done, just check my resume). I need a job that I can start a career on. I want to get us on our way and out of stress. I think that was the hardest part about this. We had thought we were there. After a job offer you feel secure. Now I am not secure and doubly stressed and depressed.
I don't even know who to turn to anymore. I need this solved and I need this solved now.
