After finally realising I would never be able to register the name I'd been using within the sca for the last 5 years (Tyghra na Tintagel) I finally came up with a new one! On New Year's Eve no less.
After going through the various options with William Castille, current Crux Australis for Lochac, it came down to wanting to keep the sound element. It would've been nice to keep the Tintagel part too, as I've been a diehard Arthurian buff for most of my life. Half of the family (Lightfoot)is Cornish and hails not too far away from the ruins of Tintagel. I even have stones from Merlin's Cave down below on the beach. But there's little evidence for Cornish names and the ones that I could bear the sound of were already taken by well known individuals. The rest are ghastly and as Tigger was my nickname as a child and teenager, the Tyg part had to stay somehow. Grandpa was only ever known as 'Tiger', Mum was known as 'Tiges' and my niece is already being called 'Tiger Tiges'. It's a family thing obviously.
William sent me some letters written by the members of St Gabriels to people who had been researching similar sounding names and after digging deeper I found a Spanish female given name and a patronym (Tigrero) that both had the right sound. Preferring to keep it to the given name, and finding that nicknames were used in Spain for the patronym, I've come up with the following... Tigriana la Joyera. All things Spanish being another area of strong interest, I'm quite happy with that element too.
The 'Joyera' component means 'jeweller' and I love having the English word 'joy' :)
Any comments dear flist?
