I've seen more movies in the past month than usually seen in a year... here's my take on them:
Transformers:
Don't remember the cartoons much, although I do recall that I liked them. The movie was nicely done; it didn't feel as if it were dependent on the special effects... which however, were amazing! How often do you get to have a scene where a robot transforms and starts a high speed chase down the highway... most awesome. It was a nice mix of funny and serious and didn't get ketchy too often. The only sore spot was the hooking up between the two main characters, who honestly, didn't look as if they fit. Yeah, yeah, it's a movie, but it still came off fake. Opus Prime was suitably gallant and heroic, with a bit of a John Wayne complex; not my fav transformer by far, but not bad. I'd give it a B+.
Harry Potter -- Order of the Phoenix.
I haven't read the book it's based off in a few years (the 7th is $%#$1$#@ great), so watching it was a decent review. I know a few people I spoke to weren't happy with it, but since I don't remember the book, it seemed good to me. They even got Tonks ever changing hair color! You really start to get the complexity of some of the characters... and you start to wonder who exactly is good and evil. Movie was much darker than the previous ones, and I think it's the first where I start to really despise one of the characters: Dolores Umbridge, a Nazi like pink clad tormentor who despises anyone not racially pure, and thrives off of making rules and ultimatums that are unfair and can't help but be broken. The actress really got the creepiness factor right. Also a B+.
Simpsons:
Love the Simpsons. Loved the movie. But... it felt as if it were just an extra long episode. The hype was really more than the movie offered, which is a shame, since the movie was decent. It was a little more risque than what's shown on TV which made it funnier on a couple of different levels. In short.. a solid B.
So... also had the chance to watch Pathfinder tonight. Not bad... very gory and bloody. Unrealistic, but the hero's cool, the heroine isn't a screaming damsel in distress, and the Vikings who look down on the American's as primitives are shown to be even more barbarous.
