Exponential growth is an interesting thing.
I love the table that
Wikipedia has that gives the estimated world population at various dates. It starts with a population of 2,000 in 70,000 BCE.
I'm reading a book right now that takes place in the late 1600s, early 1700s. Human population of the earth: under 1 billion. More people live in India, now, than lived on the earth, then. In the 300-plus intervening years, the population grew more than six times over.
In 1950, the human population of the earth was about 2 and a half billion.
Today, May 10, 2008, it reached six billion, six hundred and sixty-six million, six hundred and sixty-six thousand, six hundred and sixty-six. That's kind of a lot of people.
I suppose they will all want dignity.
Or at least a pony.
