Sweet Tooth

All words are lies
They are flashlights at twilight
Illuminating one spot and
Keeping the rest in the dark

All truths are baked in lies
Mixed with flour, topped with frosting
Cut up into neat little slices
Slathered with melting ice cream
Devoured greedily by you and me
And our precious little sweet toothes

These lies
These star-crossed eyes
They weave a complex web
Of tiny braids, connecting us by
Taking a mess of human beings
And, from them, forging humanity

They wrap up us like gifts
To be sent and received
To and by and for each other

They make the absolute
Truth of truths
Once unwrapped
And uncovered
Seem utterly,
Profoundly amazing

Even if the truth
Only amounts to:

Digital intimacy
Two pieces of gum
And catching your smile
From the other side of the cafe

So tell me the truth
And I'll tell you the truth...

Do something amazing
But say nothing
