Project Upstream - robot fish

Aug 03, 2010 12:46

Okay now, last night I was IMed by a random person with no screen name just a number. It was quite creepy to me since not too many people have my new screen name. This person claimed I IMed him with a message that said "Hi", which I didn't he IMed me with the "Hi" message. Apparently, this new internet thing called "Project Upstream" is responsible for these types of things. Connecting two random people with similar interests and then IMing them with a message. This person I was connected with was actually a pretty intelligent being a Computer Science major and after running through a lengthly list of people all over New England who may have thought this was a funny joke, he figured out it was these robot fish people. This program/project will randomly select people who frequently update their LJs, deviant art, twitter account, etc, scanning for screen names and similar interests. You can read about it here innerworkingsofaspacecase.blogspot.com/2008/07/project-upstream.html
