A "movie bomb" question
When they're disarming bombs in movies, why don't they just pull the blasting cap(s) out of the explosive and separate them from the explosive?
Are caps so powerful that you'd have to separate cap and explosive by a foot or two or is it just that nobody thinks of doing that when they can be all dramatic by beginning to cut the blue wire at the last second, only to cut the yellow one right as the timer hits 00:00?
Also, why do bad guys put big, red, digital timers on their bombs??
