Travel Diary part V

YOU THOUGHT I HAD FORGOTTEN, DIDN'T YOU? Okay, so I had. But, rejoice, it is time to tell yet more tales of the awesome country of Australia, and even though it's not still as fresh in my memory, I'm armed with a note book full (or, well, there is some text in it) of interesting observations and notes, so here goes. Terribly sorry for the delay, by the way, I'll try to get all the rest done in a matter of days now.

Day 7 - 3/1 - Sydney -> Canberra

Ah, finally, we were leaving Sydney. Ok, so I liked the city, but the hotel we stayed in... teh suxx0rz. Seriously, compare what I said about it to every other place we lived, and then figure out why it was the most expensive one. Sure, it was new year's and all, but that was just crazy.

Anyways, we were up early to catch the bus which would carry us to Canberra, the capital city of Australia. It was a nice bus, and it took lots and lots of pauses and detours, which was fine with me. More time for reading A Game of Thrones! =D

Then we arrived at the hotel, which looked pretty nice, at least on the outside. We checked in to our rooms, and I think we all felt like in heaven, at least after Highfield. It was a huge room, with a 42" LCD TV, showing J-drama (and yes, I think that it must have been purposingly showing J-drama on the first channel we turned on just to please me). ALL THE SPACE! \o/

After a while, we decided to explore this new and mysterious city of Canberra. And boy, were we amazed. We though that the hotel we lived on must have been a long way from the central area, as the surroundings were mostly park-like suburbia, with cacadoos (sp?) and kangaroos (!) roaming free. Turns out, Canberra was constructed very cleverly, attempting not to make a metropolis, but a nice, cozy capital. There were several "central areas", each one pretty small, giving of the impression that we were in some random suburbian town, not the capital city of this country. It was as different from Sydney as it could have been, and even though I prefer the shopping metropolises myself, I can't deny that there was something cute and charming about this city.

Day 8 - 4/1 - Canberra

Early up again. Some holiday. >__>

We (as in, my parents together with my aunt) had decided to go to something called Questacon this day. Questacon is, well, this: http://www.questacon.edu.au/. So, for me, at age 16, there wasn't exactly much amazement to get. But of course, when going on a holiday with family, one must expect some such experiences. And sure, I learned a thing or two too. I suddenly got lost, and wandered around for 45 minutes without finding anybody. A rather frustrating experience, as I couldn't properly use my cell phone.

But then, we went shopping! =D I don't remember much of this, but my trusty notes tell me that I bought The Battle for Middle-earth II: The Rise of the Witch-king. Which is cool. I was looking for a Wii nunchuck (nay for American translations! I will henceforth refer to it as a nunchaku!), but they were sold out everywhere.

I tried the ATM again, and according to my notes, it was jackpot! Can't remember if I withdrew anything, but at least I now had access to my money. Though I didn't know this at the time, I had a little over 10000 NOK on my account.

Day 9 - 5/1 - Canberra

Started out as a rather relaxing day. Some shopping, but when I found a store with lots of anime DVDs and Weird Al-bums, I didn't have any money left, and had forgotten my Visa at the hotel.

BTW, I think I completely forgot to tell you all the reason for this entire holiday, and I need to take it here, because the actual events revolving around it are starting.

My cousin (who I am not actually related to by blood, but I won't spend three pages explaing my family history) found an Australian girlfriend some time ago, when she was studying in Norway, and he moved after her and started studying down under. Time went, and they decided to get married. They invited us to their marriage. My mom absolutely loves travelling. End of story.

Oh, and here, have a picture: (taken on the actual wedding, but nevermind)

:,)

So, today was the big wedding rehearsal day. Me and my dad had to come, as we were each reading a little line for the wedding (in Norwegian, actually). These are the adjectives I used in my notes to describe the wedding rehearsal:

Touching (the bride cried)
Worrying
Boring

So, yes. The actual wedding was already the next day. I was not prepared at all. :X

And I'll stop there, as the wedding and the day after deserves a loong post, and it's too late for me to be writing that now. Patience, please! ^^
