At times my house has looked like I was running a home for wayward Volvos. I was very fond of their B2x engined RWD models and owned several over the years. Their first FWD model kept many of the good things of the older ones even if the engine was mounted wrong way round and had a spare cylinder. Their new ones just leave me cold: Fords with akvavit breath. I waved goodbye to what will probably be my last Volvo today, replaced by a wee Subaru.
In other automotive news, my truck is about 1/8 inch shorter, courtesy of two inattentive drivers on Route 128. The guy who was lucky Pierre in our little three-car pileup insisted that I talk to his girlfriend and explain how it was really the tail-end guy's fault. I ended up towing him out of the traffic lane as my trailer hitch was firmly embedded in the remains of his front bumper. All the people involved are fine.
